3D printing
As per Gartner, 2014 alone may see the 3D printing market to grow by three-fourths as the volumes of unit shipments become twice by 2015. There are questions around the impact that this otherwise cool piece of technology will have on the channels. Restraining costs, enhancing products and quickened manufacturing are just some of the benefits that as per Gartner the hyper activity in the consumers of 3D printing will result in. While some Channel partners are not so sure about using 3D printing for their business, others are looking at the brighter side of things in terms of the avenues for high-margin products that this will create.
Smart machines
Nothing else will be as disruptive in the entire history of IT in the years through 2020, than the advent of smart machines used in self-driving cars and automated personal assistants. Per Gartner, early adoption of these will certainly rake in the money for those willing to dare – and this is true equally for both individual and organization usage. These smart machines, notwithstanding the consumerisation, will influence the enterprise as well as the consumer segment hugely.
Web-scale IT
The value chain transformation in the cloud space by its behemoth players such as Google and Amazon is what Gartner calls as Web-scale IT. So whether it is about database centre& facilities architecture creation or creating the cloud itself, other enterprises need to be aligned to these leading companies. The same level of fast, flexible and scaled growth can be imitated by following these big fish of the cloud pond.
Software-defined anything
2014 will see Increased activity in the benchmarks, standards and regulatory arena, as per Gartner, as the maturity of software-defined anything (SDx) continues to scale up. Though vendors will be hesitant to align themselves to these standards if they affect the bottom-line, the end consumer will certainly benefit from the availability of cheaper, simpler and increasingly efficient products and services.
An Era of personal cloud
The importance once commanded by the PC over other devices will soon be conceded by it as the movement happens to the era of the personal cloud. Gartner says that users will distribute the work across very many devices inter-connected on a personal cloud. The solution providers of the future will have to manage and ensure safety and security of this herd of devices for the user over the cloud.
Cloud/client architecture
Cloud and Client architecture models are seeing a shift in balance as a result of the spurt in demand for cloud. Gartner is of the view that the burdens on networks is forcing organizations to notch down the storage footprint and move the load to the cloud instead. Client device will see increasing reliance in 2014 and beyond as businesses push themselves harder to bring down the pressure on their networks.
