I have written a little bit on this topic before. Since I still see these things happening I thought I would write another post to address the certain issues that I see arising in websites created today.
The first thing that I see pop up over and over again is Animation and sound on new websites. This is incredibly distracting and can serve as a mild annoyance. Why is this a problem? Because if someone is trying to concentrate on the material on the page but is being distracted by sound, you may be less likely to convert that visitor to whatever offer or information you are trying to give to them. I do not know about everyone else, but when I visit a web page that has sound automatically playing, I close the window never to return. I had to Read More on the internet on how these websites are designed so I could automatically turn those cling-ons off whenever I visit a website.
Another thing that should be noted is that of using popups on your site. I know I know, you want to convert your traffic and sometimes these can work. Again, you must realize how annoying these are to people who are truly there to read the information. When a popup flashes on the screen in front of the content, you are not showing the visitor much respect so you should stay away from those all together.
Remember, if you want to get the most out of each visitor there are a few simple steps to follow. The first is you want to organize your site so that it is easy to find the information. This means that you want there to be as few clicks between the visitor and the information as possible. This will maximize the visitors time on the site. The second is that you want to limit the content on each page to about 2 screen fulls of text and images. No one wants to read an article where they have to scroll and scroll and never stop.
If all of this sounds pretty easy but you are a little short on time, you can always get a website design company to design and layout your website for you. Doing this in the past has saved me a bunch of money and time. You can also go back and edit any of the details that you need to in the future if something changes so you still have the flexibility and control over your site.
Keep these tips in mind the next time you decide to start a website and you should be well on your way!
